The Slippery Noodle Inn, Indiana's oldest bar, and home of the Blues in Indiana
features live local, regional and national Blues 7 nights a week. Two bands
are featured every Friday and Saturday night on two separate stages - Music
starts at 8:00pm and goes non-stop until morning. The Noodle also features
a full service menu serving until the wee hours of the morning. Open for lunch
Monday - Friday. Wander through the recently historically renovated building
(we are listed in the National Register of Historic Places) and notice the
original Tiger Oak bar in the front barroom with a smaller version oak bar
duplicated in the back music room. The backroom balcony contains yet a third
bar and seating overlooking the 2nd stage. The Slippery Noodle also features
a game room, 12 big screen TV's, and 4 smaller screened ones, plenty of neon
and loads of atmosphere. We even serve cold carry out for people in a hurry.
The Slippery Noodle Inn has received numerous awards including 4 Vista Awards
from the Lieutenant Governors office for promoting tourism in the state of
Indiana. We were voted the Best Blues Bar consecutively from 1992-2008 by
Nuvo Magazine and listed as 1 of the Top 20 Blues Venues Nationally by Blues
Revue.
In 1995 we received the GOVERNORS AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN RECYCLING. We are the only bar in the state of Indiana to participate in a recycling program - bottles and cardboard. We are mostly a bottled beer bar but we also offer liquor and wine.
The Noodle has
a rich history including a link to Union Station by many secret underground
tunnels helping to form the Underground Railroad. The Brady & Dillinger gang
hung around at the tavern. The back music room used to be the livery stable.
The back inside wall was used for target practice and you can still see the
bullets imbedded in the brick wall. The upstairs of the front building was
originally built as a luxurious road house for railway passengers. Later years
saw it used as a whore house with 23 small rooms The Noodle is the oldest
commercial building left standing in Indianapolis and the Tremont House sign
painted on the north side of the building dates back to the 1850's.
The Slippery Noodle Inn works in conjunction with Slippery Noodle Sound,
Indiana's Blues recording label. At present, there are 16 releases including
4 live compilation albums, 3 recorded live at the Noodle releases by: The Why Store, Paul Holdman & Rebekka Meldrum and The Dave Muskett Acoustic Band, and studio releases by: The Elect, Yank Rachell, David Morgan,
The Cooler Kings, Blue Lou & the Accusations (2 releases), Gene Deer (2 releases),
Gordon Bonham and Jimmy Ley.
